We strive to be an environmentally responsible hotel, pub and event venue to help achieve a cleaner, safer and healthier world for us and for future generations, reducing our impact on the planet whilst delivering the best customer experience.

Strategy and Commitment

Our Strategy:
To educate and improve understanding in order to become more energy efficient, reduce waste, minimise pollution, recycle and to fully integrate environmental best practices into our day to day operations.

Our Commitment:
To build on the steps we have made so far, we will continue to;

  • Be more energy efficient
  • Evolve our biodiversity initiatives
  • Use up-cycled or recycled materials where possible
  • Work with sustainable companies for our products
  • Eliminate food waste
  • Reduce, reuse, recycle and embrace the circular economy model
  • Build awareness and help to educate the importance of individuals’ responsibility

Awards

The Kingfisher is proud to have achieved the ECOsmart 2025 Gold Award. In the last two years we have made significant steps to achieving our sustainability goals, including removing single use plastics and replacing with glass, replacing all light bulbs with LED lighting, educating the team to rethink waste management, working with suppliers on sustainable options and installing EV charges at the property.

Our Journey

At The Kingfisher we will continue to focus on sustainability as a priority for the future, with our ultimate goal of net zero emissions. In order to do this we will continue to work with our team, guests and suppliers educating wherever we can and using the best possible resources.

A Kingfisher update:

We’re making a small change to keep our chefs comfortable in the heat. From tomorrow until Friday, the kitchen will be closed between 3pm and 5pm each day.

All existing bookings are unaffected, and we’ll be back as normal outside of those hours.

We are absolutely chuffed with this one 🥈

Last night, we were named Runners Up in the Bedford’s Best Business category of the Bedford @smeawardsuk which is the very same category in which we took the gold home last year!

To be listed in the top 2 businesses that Bedford has to offer (for 2 years now!) is a genuine honour, and we are feeling very proud today.

This is in no small part thanks to the incredible team behind us, so thank you team - you are wonderful!

The games will be show on our brand new TV screen.

With drinks and food on tap, and the biggest sporting event in the world on show, there really is no better place to be.
